Description: Egyptian Spinach / Molokhia (Corchorus olitorius)- 250 SEEDSYou will receive a packet of 250 Seeds from our Egyptian Spinach growing in sunny Florida. Home grown all naturally using natural regenerative methods with lots of love and zero chemicals, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. The seeds are from our most recent harvest and are fresh viable seeds ready to sow. Growing Info & TipsEgyptian Spinach aka Molokhia is a Middle Eastern super-green that is rich in nutrients and makes for a delicious addition to your garden and dinner plate! It is a heat tolerant quick and easy growing annual that produces lots of tender spinach like greens well into the summer. In frost-free climates it can be kept as a perennial but you may prefer it best as an annual for more tender new growth, like I do. If grown in the ground it can reach 5-8 ft tall and if grown in a container it will reach 2-3ft tall. It does tend to like water so make sure to keep the soil moist in between rainfalls. It can be harvested and topped when young for more lateral growth. If grown out to maturity the stalks can be processed to make the fibrous material jute. For Sowing the Seeds:Sow seeds after any chances of frost has passed. Ideal soil temp is 75-86 degrees. Sow the seeds in pre-moistened potting mix in small pots or in seed starting trays. Barely cover the seeds, as they need some light to germinate. Keep soil moist but well drained. Seeds can take 10-20 days to germinate so be patient. Pot up into successively larger pots or transplant to the ground 12-16 inches apart. 60-68 days to maturity. Uses & PreparationI love to use the fresh leaves in salads and green smoothies… they are delicious! They can also be sautéed as a side vegetable or used in soups. Yum! When cooked the leaves have a mucilaginous feel. You can also dry the leaves and brew them into a tea or use them to thicken soups. Known as the "food of kings" it is the most widely eaten vegetable in Egypt, North Africa & the Middle East. If you google it you can find several recipes for soup and other preparations. Please do your own research before using & consuming. Please Note: All of my seeds are fresh and viable. Growing plants from seeds is fun! The majority of the time it is a success but sometimes it’s not. This just is the way it is with nature and gardening. I hope you experience success with all the seeds, however because I am not there to plant them, I cannot be responsible for germination failure due to improper planting or climate conditions etc. I do include a detailed note with planting advice with your order to help ensure your success.
