Description: Caitlin at Camp Series/Early Chapter Book Gift Set of 3 Children's Books. Grades 1 to 3The Caitlin Series includes three early-chapter books about a young girl at summer camp. Caitlin has a "can-do" attitude, determination, and spunk. This gift set of all three books comes with a ribbon, a hair clippie, and a bookmark. The Caitlin at Camp series is a great way for young readers to prepare for sleep over camp, hiking, and planning a party. Based on Girl Scout camp experiences. Each book is a stand-alone story, but the three together paint a delightful picture of what it's like to spend a summer at camp when your mom is one of the staff. Based on the author's experiences and years as a Girl Scout leader, each story tells how Caitlin, a strong and determined young girl, meets the challenges of belonging, making friends, and planning a party. Perfect for young readers in grades 1 thru 3. Each book is between 50 and 66 pages (total of 183 pages for the 3 books). Simple and fun black and white illustrations by artist Ron Whitacre. Each book features drawings of a different animal often seen at camp: first lizards, then squirrels, and finally raccoons. ReviewsIn Tagalong Caitlin by Katie Lang-Slattery, Caitlin loves going to camp every summer. Her mother works there, so it's not quite the same as if Caitlin is one of the campers. But she wants to fit in and she wants to go on the three-day hike with her mother and the older girls. Caitlin tries to convince her mother she is old enough and big enough to manage the long hike. What does Caitlin have todo to convince her mother and the other campers that she's no longer the little tagalong Caitlin they like to tease? Tagalong Caitlin is the tale of one very determined little girl who's not so little anymore. Katie Lang-Slattery's early chapter book, Tagalong Caitlin, is a sweet story about a little girl with great determination. The plot follows Caitlin's arrival at camp and her desire to join the three-day hike. Her mother isn't convinced, but that doesn't stop Caitlin' s resolve to go. The conflict intensifies as her mother continues saying no. However, an incident at a campfire gathering escalates to a surprising climax. As Caitlin makes a plan and follows it through, she creates a lasting impression on both the adults and the older campers. The language is simple enough to help early readers improve their reading skills. There are some pen and ink drawings to help carry the story along. The dialogue is engaging ,and the plot is moving and believable. This is a great story to inspire young readers to work toward their dreams and never give up. Reviewed by Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers' Favorite Jared Hanley5.0 out of 5 stars Many important lessonsReviewed in the United States on May 31, 2021Caitlin's Buddy. This short book--the perfect length for its intended audience--is packed full of valuable lessons. Most obvious among those lessons are those that introduce novice campers to the fun of time in the outdoors and help children learn about the joyful independence of spending nights away from the comforts of family. But there's so much more that readers will get from this compact story. It teaches readers about compromise, communication, and friendship. And it models flexibility, understanding, acceptance, and resilience. The main character's growth mindset is apparent as she tackles new challenges and supports someone with whom she initially seems to share little in common. Any story that encourages children to be open-minded and spend time in nature--while helping others do the same--is worth a read. Caitlin's Party by Katie Lang-Slattery is an enjoyable and entertaining story about Caitlin, who is helping her mom and the other camp staff get ready to close Camp Whispering Pines for the summer. She is not ready to say goodbye to everyone yet and decides to help with their end-of-the-season chores so they can have a party together before going their separate ways. She convinces her mom, the counselors, and other staff to come to the party, where there will be food and games. She works hard to get everything prepared in time so everyone can have a great final evening before saying goodbye for the summer. Katie Lang-Slattery created a very heartwarming story in Caitlin's Party. Caitlin's Party is a super great book for young readers! I loved seeing the cute illustrations sprinkled throughout the pages as Caitlin went around the camp to help with the various jobs that needed to be done. She was a sweet protagonist who worked really hard to make those around her happy on their last night at camp. I enjoyed seeing the dynamic she had with the other staff members play out on the pages, and although she was much younger than everyone else, she was still treated as one of them. Katie Lang-Slattery did a wonderful job portraying what goes on after summer camps end, which I feel is not often seen in children's and young adult books with a camp as the setting. Caitlin's Party was a fun and quick read that I would recommend to elementary school children. Rylanne Burdette for Readers' FavoriteJared Hanley5.0 out of 5 stars This book models leadership and initiativeReviewed in the United States on June 24, 2021Caitlin's Party As a parent and teacher, I particularly appreciate how this book features the opportunity that children-- even at a young age--have to step into a leadership position . . . and shine. Through her initiative, vision, creativity, and hard work, young Caitlin turns her fantasy into reality. She communicates; she collaborates; and she tackles a variety of tasks. She is resilient, too, persevering despite the doubts of others. This is another short volume full of valuable lessons, lessons that inspire emerging leaders while also highlighting the power of friendship.
