Description: Really Nice Offering from Noted Indiana Artist Robert Lohman (1919-2001)5 Very Different Water Color Works, all Signed and DatedGreat Sampling of Varied Styles showing Diverse Skills of ArtistCirca 1976-1978, under $50 per Painting!Just Reduced! Wonderful grouping here. They are as follows: 1.) The water color in the top left of the first picture in Gallery is an abstract with many faces Labeled "Carnival" and Signed and dated 1-10-76. It is lovely & brightly colored and does have a carnival feel to it. It is painted on a rice type paper and is approx 13" L x 9.5" H. Nice color splash for any room.2.) Just under the "Carnival" picture is a little more stark work done in black and blue and looks like an abstract of a human skull (at least that is what we see). It is signed and dated 1-31-78 and is on thicker stock paper and roughly 12.5" L x 6.5" H.3.) Bottom left is an abstract of 4 figures in water color and ink we think on rice type paper, signed and dated 1-19-76. Kind of a unique piece.4.) To the right upper, is a really neat and lovely painting of what appear to be dancing ballerinas. Signed and dated 1-10-78. This is a very skilled work and would look great in a proper frame to compliment any collection or room decor. It has a few spots or dots on it, but they do not really effect it's overall appeal and may have been there from the start but we wanted to note them.5.) Last, but not least is the fantastic work of a bird Lohman titled "Pheonix" done in an explosion of color, style & flair. This painting also begs for proper respect in the right frame and home! Signed and dated 1-10-76, the same date as the "Carnival" Print. These works would look great mounted in a single large frame titled "January Strokes" or separately of course. We were joking about "January Strokes", but we found it so odd that every one of the paintings were dated in January of 1976 or 1978. Maybe Robert painted in January to beat the winter doldrums, who knows, but it was an odd coincidence and like 21,000 to 1 odds to find that many January paintings in one grouping without someone sorting them and that's assuming the 2 from same date 1-10-76 were always together. In any case, it made us wonder. Per the "Ask Art" site and other online sources: Lohman was a gifted artist in multiple mediums and well known as a sculptor as well. He worked with wood, plaster, ceramics, metals and painted with oils and watercolor in a variety of ways and styles. He studied at Herron Art Institute and Cranbrook and Yale for Graduate work. He taught at the Cranbrook Academy before becoming Director of Fine Arts there in 1947-49. He further taught at Washington University in St. Louis and the Indianapolis Art League for 10 years. Other background, awards and other can be found from other online resources. Lohman's works can sell from under $50 and up into the thousands depending on the mediums, topic, size and other of the works and sculptures. We are bundling these at what we feel is well under their true value if sold separately. Several of his Water Colors of these sizes have sold above $150 each (and others under of course), but at under $50 these are quite a buy.
