Description: LaCie 4Big four-sled RAID disk array, containing 4x(2 TB) drives, and having a USB 3.0 port, and a pair of Firewire 800 ports. In excellent working condition, it includes its power supply and a USB 3.0 to USB A cable. It is presently configured as RAID 0, so the four drives yield an overall disk capacity of 8 TB, wiped and is ready to use. It also offers RAID 10, RAID 5, and RAID 5 + hot spare, all as user selectable, hardware-based RAID (no special RAID software needed). I used it primarily in a Mac OS X environment, but for this sale I have reformatted it as exFat, so it should be readable under a variety of operating system (I tested it on a Microsoft Surface running Windows 10, and can confirm it was it was recognized fine there). These LaCie arrays are very well constructed, with a strong metal case and effective but very quiet fan/cooling system. The case on this unit has some minor scratches on the top, that I've tried to show clearly in listing photos, but it is otherwise very clean. Through the USB 3 connection on my Mac, the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test app reports read and write speeds over 200 MB/sec for this array in RAID 0 mode. Certainly there are much faster things out there these days, but for an older HDD based system, that speed is quite good, and makes the moving of large files much quicker. Speed through the FW 800 connection is of course a bit slower. This is a heavy unit, and for shipping, I'll remove and separately cushion each of the hard drives to protect them.
