8.1 carat Ethiopian Opal and 14k solid gold pendant w/14k solid gold chain

Description: Up for your consideration is a sensational Ethiopian Opal pendant, handmade with solid 14k yellow gold (5.2 grams). I try to fashion all my jewelry to highlight what's most important "the gemstone". This is how I've always created my jewelry, and now this style is becoming popular and is known as Minimalist Art. This pendant features a 8.1 carat 21x14x7mm solid Ethiopian Opal. The seller of this gem did not list it's grade but I would say the Opal is likely an "AAA" grade stone.. I try to take all photos using bright sunlight as I think that is how most gems look their best. ETHIOPIAN WELO OPAL is a relatively new gem, discovered only about 15 years ago (2008) near the town of Wensel Tena in the Wollo district of Ethiopia. About 15 years earlier, Opal was discovered in Ethiopia's N. Shewa's district but that Opal was a poor quality stone that was quite prone to crazing (cracking). The newer Welo Ethiopian Opal is a high grade gem compared by many to be of quality equal to the Opal that is mined in Australia. The Gemological Institute of America, tested Ethiopian Welo Opal as well as opal from several other sources. The opals were dropped from four feet onto concrete to see if they would crack. The Ethiopian Welo Opal was able to withstand the test without damage...all other opals failed the test. I was lucky enough to have "discovered" Welo Opal soon after it came on the market. If you have never seen or owned an Ethiopian Opal, you don't know what you're missing! I was amazed by the beauty, flash and colors displayed by these stones. Ethiopian Opals have striking fire and colors ( red,yellow, blues, greens) which my photos unfortunately do little to display. The surface of this stone is smooth like glass and rounded. The stone, the Ethiopian Opal, is clear with flashes of red, green, gold and yellow, all depending on how the light hits the stones surfaces. The overall size of the pendant is 1 1/4" high by 5/8" wide. The Opal in this piece of jewelry came from sellers buying directly from Ethiopia. The Opal is set in solid 14k yellow gold (5.2 gr.) and comes with an 18" ( 2 gr.) 14k solid gold chain as shown, a total of 7.2 grams of 14k gold.
