Description: Offered is the antique book "A Hilltop on the Marne-Being Letters Written June 3-September 8, 1914", written by Mildred Aldrich and published in Boston by the Houghton Mifflin Co. The book by the American expatriate journalist, contemporary of Gertrude Stein, who lived very close to the site of the First Battle of the Marne, is a stated 12th printing, from July, 1916, less than a year after the first printing in October, 1915. There are several black and white photos. The book is approx. 7" x 4 1/2" and contains 188 pages, including the appendix. It is in good to very good condition. The green hard cover has moderate wear, mainly on the corners and at the top and bottom of the spine. The gold words on the front are still shiny; the ones on the spine are less so, but still easily readable. There is no cracking inside either the front or back cover. The green map endpapers have some browning near the center but are otherwise good. There is a very small label inside the front cover from McClelland & Co. Booksellers in Columbus, Ohio, which looks old enough to be from the original shop selling the book. I see no missing or torn pages and all of the pages are well-attached to the binding, with some wrinkling on some pages. The pages have yellowed but they are generally clean and clear. The tissue paper between the frontispiece and the title page is still present. I see no writing in the book. I have a lot of experience with vintage and antique books but am not an expert so please let me know if my description is missing information and you have additional questions. I will do my best to answer them! Please take a moment to look at some of the other items in my eBay store!
