Heralds are advertising flyers that are typically placed at theaters, and sometimes included in Playbills and Programs. This single sheet, double sided herald is from The Playwrights' Company, an American theatrical production company that was established to produce works of its founding playwrights. There are three plays being advertised on this herald: Elmer Rice's "American Landscape" playing at the Cort Theatre; Maxwell Anderson and Kurt Weill's "Knickerbocker Holiday" featuring Walter Huston and playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre; and Robert E. Sherwood's "Abe Lincoln In Illinois" featuring Raymond Massey and playing at the Plymouth Theatre. All three theaters were located in New York City, and their opening nights all took place in the Fall or early Winter of 1938. The souvenir herald is in great, vintage condition, with no rips, tears, writing or damage, and minimal soiling and wear.
