Service watches were commonly made for the German Army by both Swiss and German watch manufacturers. Often watches were made to order and were stamped on the back with the service member's pay number. These watches were meant to be returned after the individual left military service. These particular watches come in a smart black presentation box complete with watch pillow. Each watch as a brown coloured PU leather wrist strap with a traditional silver coloured metal buckle. The straps are held in place with spring bars so the straps can easily be replaced if desired. The watch face in encased in a silver coloured stainless steel watch housing. There are the traditional tool notches around the back of the face as well as the stamping 'Wasserdicht Stahlboden', which translates as 'waterproof steel base'. The black watch face is lined around the edge with large easy to read luminous numbering. The main hour and minute hands are also luminous so can easily be read in low light conditions. Beneath the main hands is a smaller dial with a single hand which is used to record seconds.
