He played right guard for four years including the 1953 Undefeated National Championship Team and was recognized nationally as an All American in 1954. Jack described his football talent as "legs driving like pistons - relentless power." Besides football, he also lettered in boxing. His schooling at Notre Dame University influenced every aspect of his life, and his great love for our Lady's university remained foremost for the rest of his life.Upon graduation in 1955, he began his career in the United States Air Force. As a command pilot in Strategic Air Command, he flew the B-47 Bomber, the B-58 Hustler - the first supersonic bomber (member of the exclusive Mach 2 Club), and served in Vietnam with the 7th Air Force SCATBACK Operations.
