Description: 1960s Aircraft "Breaker" Fresh Water Tank - USN Patrol One as-removed aircraft component taken off of an airplane during scrapping. This is a fresh water tank or potable water container that would have been stowed on-board a 1960s era U.S. Navy patrol bomber aircraft. These came from scrapped Lockheed P2V "Neptune" patrol bombers that were cut up in Tucson, AZ several decades ago. I suspect true to Navy form these units would have been found in other transport and patrol bomber aircraft of the 1960s and 70s. This was presumably came from a/c 209. Data plate reads: BREAKER FRESH WATER CAP 4 1/2 U.S. GAL. MET-PRO INC. LANSDALE, PA STOCK NO. NAF 1085-1 N.A.F. DWG. 56778-1 CONT. N383-83500A INSPECTED _________ U.S. Composition appears to be stainless steel. The interior of the P2V was pretty cavernous, and if memory serves there were several of these rack mounted in the fuselage. In the 1980s the P2Vs were cheap and plentiful from USN surplus sales and scrapper concerns like National Aircraft bought scores of them. The Neptunes were processed out and usually scrapped, although several did sell as complete airframes to aerial applicators who converted them for aerial firefighting duty. I was always fascinated by the pile of "carve outs" from the airframes and tool several of these hoping they were similar in construction and style for use in the restoration of an earlier Lockheed product - the "Harpoon." They weren't. Both are very different. This one - measures about 25 in length and about 10 round. This one has the fill cap lined with cork gasket. The brass or stainless steel water bib that was on the tank end has been removed. A few dents as received when it was pulled and literally tossed from the airframe. Nice and clean on the inside... it's never held anything but water. OK, air. Limited volume of air. Again, NO DRAIN COCK. The cover on this one is stuck to the drum. I can unleash the spring but the cap doesn't move. I suspect the cork gasket is holding it tight. An interesting Neptune souvenir, to be sure. Fair shape for a 60-year-old part. This is the very LAST ONE of perhaps two dozen we took from the scrap yards 25 years ago. Ships cheapest via UPS or FedEx Ground. Questions? Don't sit there in the chair - ask 'em and we'll respond. And thanks for looking!
