Description: ALGERIA - Large sized 500 DINARS BANKNOTE - 1970 issue in hardly handled or circulated condition - with four tiny pinholes, otherwise grades XF to a/UNC Condition. Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE SCARCE BANQUE CENTRALE d'ALGÉRIE/ CENTRAL BANK OF ALGERIA ISSUE - 1970 - in at least Superb XF Condition - note has seen light handling only, it has light central bends/creases to the paper and just 4 of the normally found pinholes! Catalogue Reference:- Pick#129a. 500 Dinars Banknote 1970. This superb large sized banknote is in shades of Purple with some Pink in the background on the face with slightly Lighter Purple shades to the reverse. On the face of the note at the left side and the bottom of the note is a variety of stylised images in a Mosaic design - from the top left they are as follows - a traditional Algerian square sailed sailing boat, below this are two types of fish and at the bottom an Ox and Cart.The main image at the centre shows a iew of a city. The reverse of the note has the name of the issuer in script at the top centre - Banque Centrale Algérie. shows another sailing boat at the top left, underneath this is a Galleon, while at the centre left is a coastal walled city. At the lower centre right is the denomination as Cinq Cents Dinars in script. At the bottom on the reverse is the following text - 'L'Article 197 du Code Penal punit le contrefacteur' which means - Article 197 of the Penal Code punishes counterfeiters. At the centre of the left side of the face is the signature of the first Governor of the Bank, following Algeria's independence from France in 1962 - Seghir Mostefai, who was in office from 1962 - 1981. The note has a metallic Security strip at the left of centre. The face of the banknote has Serie E005 and Serial 42560 at the top left and lower left and reversed at the top and lower right. The Control Number 10442560 is at the upper centre. Size - 172 × 94 mm. This 50 year old Note is crisp, clean and bright, it has two central light handling creases. The edges and corners are straight and sharp. The banknote has seen little circulation, if any at all.The note has just 4 of the normally found pinholes at the right hand side of the note in the white space there, these were usually found on French produced notes of the period. It is otherwise in Extremely Fine condition, many would grade as a/Unc condition - A very collectible, scarce example in this condition.
