Description: ALLEN GINSBERG (June 3, 1926-April 5, 1997) was an American poet and writer. As a student at Columbia University in the 1940s, he formed friendships with William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac, forming the core of the Beat Generation. He vigorously opposed militarism, economic materialism and sexual repression and he embodied various aspects of the counterculture with his views on drugs, sex and hostility to bureaucracy. Offering his Cosmopolitan Greetings. Poems. 1986-1992. Signed and Inscribed. New York: HarperCollins 1994. 118 pp. First Edition, First Printing, Hardcover. Black paper-covered boards, quarter-bound in black cloth with gold design stamped on front board and metallic purple lettering on the spine. A straight, square and tight copy. Barley visible stain on top text block edge and a darker red stain to the top right corner of text block, slightly affecting the corner of some pages. Dust jacket is clean and bright. This copy is signed by Ginsberg with his AH trademark and INSCRIBED for Milt Rosen. This could be Milt Rosen, who is the founding chair of the Progressive Labor Party. Or perhaps the Milt Rosen, who was a famous Hollywood writer. Additionally, Ginsberg writes Karme Choling under the HarperCollins logo, which is the name of a Buddhist meditation center in Vermont. Ginsberg spent time there under the tutelage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Rinpoche, who was the founder of the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado, had a real respect for Beat poets for their abilities to use their writing as a tool for raising consciousness. A wonderful copy by the leading figure in the Beat Generation movement with his signature, trademark and the mentioning of Karme Choling. The book celebrates his poetry, the Beat Generation and his commitment to Buddhism. Everything we sell is guaranteed authentic forever to the original buyer. We also offer a 30-day return policy.
