If you've ever seen Dougs prints you know that he's no slouch in the darkroom, Amidol and Azo were his tools of the trade. Amidol can be used in any number of developers and not just for paper either. If you add 1/8th tsp to a liter of working solution PMK developer you'll get a 1/2 stop speed bump. Amidol is one of photography's oldest and best developers and remains undisputed in its qualities. If you do a search you'll find a number of great formulae available. I've included a pic of Dougs print formula for prints and of course the classic ABC pyro as used by Eddy Weston.
