Description: Fine British painting by Sir David Murray (1849 - 1933).This painting is oil on canvas and measures 12" by 18 1/4".Painting depicts this artists favorite subject; an evening or dusk landscape.This particular work stands out for it's deep and dramatic pinks in a darkening (quite dark) but peaceful evening landscape. Dramatically and with flourish signed lower right: David Murray 94.We see a house or barn and hints of perhaps livestock in the distance and the dark foreground is actually swimming with color of flowers, reds, yellow, and especially bright greens dimmed by the fallen sun.Appears to have been very well cared for and to be in very good condition. Does not need cleaning, etc. It is unframed.There is a hand written note on paper on the back which I think reads: R M Lord Anderson Esq. Ava Lodge Helensburgh DumbartonshireThe penciled note on the vertical wood stretcher reads: Clean & repair frame up ????? & box The red seal reads: Paul J Gross GALLERIES PORTLAND (Place) (Where he had his studio) Sir David Murray, an important British painter, was born in Scotland in 1849 and moved to London in 1882. He was inducted into the Royal Academy in 1905, elected president of the Royal Institute in 1917 and knighted in 1918. Though born in Scotland, the majority of his paintings were done in southern England. This is a gloriously dark and beautifully pink landscape.
