Description: 1897 No. 9A Dental foot bellows made by Buffalo Dental Mfg. Co., Buffalo, NY. Victorian era foot operated bellows for use in a dental office. Wood frame with leather expansion material, cast iron foot pedal and stand and metal blow pipe. Top cloth is worn and torn. The rest of the unit looks fine, whether it is complete or not is unknown. Foot pedal operates the bellows as designed. Carved into the top piece of wood is the Buffalo Dental Mfg. Co. info, the Model No. 9A and numbers 5/103/10/97 which are size and production date codes. The dentist would hook up an air line to the nipple coming out the lower side and the other end to his drill or whatever. While he's working on a patient he would pump the bellows up and down with his foot to provide air power for the drill.
