Description: Antique 1920’s Mudson J. & J. Kohn Bentwood Thonet Chair Czech This is in original condition and has not been restored!! This Chair was made in Czechoslovakia and appears to be around the 1920’s according to my research. It is in good condition esp for its age. It has scratches and blemishes which only give it character. It is very structurally sound and in fully usable condition! Quality made!! Steam pressed pattern into seat base! Bottom has original sticker says J & J Kohn LTD and also stamped Mudson into the wood as shown in pictures. Top of seat has an a design into it. 34 1/2” Total Height overall 18 3/8” seat height from floor 14 1/2” seat diameter 16 1/2” seat top to of back of chair This is a very rare piece of art. In 1849 Jacob Kohn and his son Josef,of Vienna (Wein), Austria, founded a company that made wooden parts for buildings. The company began making Furniture in about 1867 and eventually established Factory's in several cities. The Kohns manufactured Bentwood chairs similar to those made by Thonet. The Kohns company merged with Mundus in 1914 and the name became Kohn - Mundus. Kohn - Mundus merged with Thonet in 1922. This has both the Kohn name and Mundus so I believe it was made around 1920’s. Kohns works can be seen in a number of museum's today,, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York
