Description: A pair of rare antique 19th century Qing dynasty Chinese women’s embroidered silk bound feet Lotus shoes in excellent condition commensurate with age. One side of the shoe features a monkey on abamboo branch. The other side displays a pig with a flowering branch. The soles of the shoes are also embroidered with butterflies and silk ribbon. These shoes were most likely made for a bride to wear on her wedding day. The zodiac animals, monkey and pig, were possibly those of the bride and groom. These shoes were featured in an article in the January 2016 journal Textiles Asia.
