Description: Antique Art Nouvea Josef Strnact Teplitz majolica amphora plum fruit vase circa 1900. Beautiful antique majolica Victorian Art Nouveau amphora vase decorated in high raised relief plums and leaves on branches. Stanped with #4751 21 and the letters JS. The Art Nouveau style was based on natural forms rather than architecture, employing organic curves, floral design and the feminine form. The style was short lived, flourishing between about 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. Vase itself is a raised relief wheat colored basket in beautiful original condition. The raised fruit decoration has vibrant color and some rough edges on the leaves which is original to the piece. The only flaw I could find is a flake of glaze missing on the back of one of the leaves, see last photo. It stands 10 1/2" in height and 5 1/2" in diameter not including handles with handles it is 7 1/2" wide. Please view pictures carefully for detail, as they are part of the description. Please email if any questions The vase will be shipped in a large heavy duty box.
