Description: This study and dramatic arts and crafts pendant survived the 2024 hurricane Helena flood waters that destroyed Asheville's River Arts District. Our retail shop was there and went under 16 feet of water, mud and debris. We lost most of our lighting, but this light hung from a ceiling chain attached to a steel rafter and survived. We rescued it, cleaned it, installed new wiring and and we are pleased to offer it for sale here again. The light now has a modern history to go with its over 100 years of shining. A large, heavy (about 19 pounds) antique pendant light of the Arts and Crafts style. Signed by Murlin, an early 1900s light maker out of Philadelphia, PA. The sign is a upper case "M" with an underscore. The light has a new socket with ground wire and updated wiring. This light was priced at nearly $1,500 in an antique store in NC. We have TWO cast iron signed Murlin pendant lights. The second Murlin light is listed in our other items. Condition is good. Finish is original and has typical wear/aging and very minimal rust and a few paint specs. This is a larger than usual pendant—the body is 18" high and 9.75" across. Total weight is 19 pounds 7 ounces. Drop is 50" Chain is 29". Drop could easily be shortened by removing chain links. Canopy is 5" diameter. The canopy is a replacement. Please see our other listings for a large selection of antique and vintage lighting including more Arts and Crafts. All antique and vintage lighting should be inspected and installed by a licensed electrician.
