Description: A long gimlet, used for boring the small holes needed for bell wires in large houses, for servants bells. It has a hardwood handle with a nice patina of use. It drills a 1/4" hole in wood or other soft materials. There is a small hole about 12 behind the point. I guess that once the hole was drilled, the gimlet was withdrawn and the free end of the wire inserted in the hole, then the gimlet would function as a needle to thread the wire though the hole. Fully functional, also a nice piece for a heritage / historical display. Weight 150g UK post £3.30 by courier - too long for Royal Mail.
