Description: Offered here is an antique sleigh bell – probably brass because it is heavy in weight, but the verdigris/tarnish is so heavy I hesitate to clean it. The bell is 3-1/2” tall, 8” in circumference with lovely mellow tune – there is etched or molded design around the lower level and “10” is the size number. This bell has been stored for many years in a barn or out-building at one of the local farms. (Note – when farmers run out of storage space in Carroll Co. MD, it seems they just build another building). The bell appears to have been well used; the clapper looks to be a metal ball a bit smaller than a regular size marble that is free floating and there are two areas on the upper part of the bell that appear as damage. One is a thinness at the top near the hook that light shows through. The other is a tiny round hole located between two of the upper sound holes.
