Description: OLD PRIMITIVE WOOD TOOL BOX / TOOL CHEST... CARPENTERS LIKED THESE. GREAT LOOKING, AND REMAINS STURDY. Item is unmarked.... possibly handcrafted. Style of dovetailing helps to date the item. Only history I have on the item is it belonged to the family of a 72 year old woman's grandfather. Dates back into the 1800s.... and belonged to Arkansas settlers. FEATURES; Raised Panel on Lid. Unusual Dovetailing on each corner. Divided tray is removable and when inserted, it slides front to back at your preference (no dovetailing on tray, which is put together by small nails. A keyhole is on front.... no key is present..... Luckily this is not a self-locking box. All wood , except for hardware. Real obvious the box is mostly made of pine. A few small areas may have another wood (a bit different color) but likely it is all pine. ------------------------------------------------- CONDITION: Box is sturdy, and holding together very well. Lid operates as it should, making for a smooth and good closure and opening. Hardware is all present and firmly in place. Wear to box is expected type wear for a real old tool box... and what I consider to be less than expected since it is cosmetic type wear. Primarily it includes random scratches, some spots, and a few small pieces which have chipped away (mainly on edge or corner). I see a few hairline cracks.... only one goes through to opposite side (it is on the sliding removable tray).....yet the tray remains firmly together (see ebay photo) New owner may wish to refinish, possibly repairing some of the cosmetic wear......giving it a 'pretty look'. I preferred to leave as is since the cosmetic wear helps validate the age and gives some distinction to the toolbox. ------------------------------------------- PHOTOS: I posted photos of front , back, and each side, plus top and bottom, PLUS all 4 corners, to give you a good view of the dovetailing. You can see the dovetailing in the photos. Also posted photos of the removable sliding tray PLUS a good view of the INSIDE of BOX, with and without the tray. You will want to look at photos which will help more with your assessment than my words--------------------------------- MEASUREMENTS:EXTERIOR: Right at 20-1/2" wide X Right at 12-1/4" Front to back (Depth) X Right at 6" tall INTERIOR: Approx 18-1/4" wide X 10-1/4" front to back X 4-1/2" tall ( 18-1/4" between side wall to opposite side wall X right at 10-1/4" from front wall to back wall, and right at 4-1/2" from bottom to top of walls) Removable sliding tray is right at 5" from front to back and 2-3/8" tall.... measures right at 18" long WEIGHT: a bit less than 13 lbs
