In its official use, it served as the Navy Jack. The Stars & Bars was adopted as the 1st national flag of the South on March 4th, 1861. Because it too closely resembled the Stars & Stripes, it served poorly as a signal and was replaced by the 2nd National design on May 1st, 1863. The new flag was also poorly designed, and a 3rd national flag was introduced in 1865, but the war ended just 36 days later. This flag has age, wear, marks, rips, tears, repairs, etc. Repairs have been made through the years. Please zoom up and notice the condition. It would be an excellent candidate for framing. It could be a civil war era flag or possibly a post war GAR Reunion flag. It will be either shipped with registered mail or hand delivered. local pick up available five mins off i95 near Philadelphia airport.
