Description: Up for auction at the Grand Antique Mall located in Cincinnati, Ohio is an Antique French FORTIN RENNES patinated bronze/brass cast spelter Figural Mantle Clock and Matching Cherub Garnitures, cast with ornate ormolu scrolls and foliate designs, and each hallmarked FRANCE on the back. Includes the original pendulum, bell, and winding key. The porcelain clock face has 2 winding holes and features a hand painted garland just below the 12. On the face is written FORTIN RENNES. Black Arabic numbers, fancy black metal hands, and original beveled glass door are among the features. The clock strikes on the hour and on the half. On the interior rim of the bevelled glass door is the Roman numeral XVII. The clock movements show the serial number 24390, and numbers 3 (or 5?), 8 at the lower center. Acanthus leaves, scrolls, flowers, and classical motifs decorate the 3 pieces in the set, and each has a rouge/pink/violet marble base with ormolu scroll feet at each corner. To the right of the clock stands the goddess Fortuna, holding a cornucopia of gold coins in her left hand. Beneath an elaborate laurel wreath is a quiver of arrows diagonally crossing a lit torch. The 2 garnitures feature a cupid on front and back, thus reinforcing the theme of abundant fortune in love and money. The clock has been cleaned, oiled, tested, and found to be in working condition. Includes metal inserts for candleholders, original pendulum, bell and key. Circa: 1870.
