Description: This is the image of “John Bull” and he was the symbolic equivalent of “Uncle Sam” to the British. He was created by English political satirical writer John Arbuthnot (1667-1735). They were made in Sarreguemines, France and each is marked well from the Factory also with the mold # 3257. Please note the one pictured is also stamped “Made in Germany” ! Then remember the history of Alsace-Lorraine and you’ll see Germany claimed these regions after the Prussian invasion of 1870. These regions remained German until reclaimed by France at the “Treaty of Versailles”. Of course, Adolf Hitler took them back in May, 1940 and then reclaimed by France in 1945. They measure 7.5” tall by 8” from handle to nosetip and are in excellent condition with great overall “age related glaze crazing “.
