Description: Lovely Toile curtain tie back with charming cotton fringe trim and small brass rings. Hand stitched. The scene, titled "Les Délices Des Quatre Saisons“ (The Delights of the Four Seasons) was first printed by Jouy in 1789. This lovely fabric was printed later around 1900-1910. Creamy off white cotton printed in red. The original selvedges are intact but sewn over at 32.5” wide. As its name suggests, The Delights of the Four Seasons , illustrates the changing occupations and games that symbolize every season. The dance around the May tree represents spring, the wheat harvest & picnic portray summer. According to tradition, grape picking evokes autumn, while a sleigh gliding over the snow and a skating scene symbolizes winter. A most delightful depiction of rural French life in the late 18th century! Condition: Good! A small bit of pinkish bleed from trim when washed. Please see photos and use zoom as part of item description. Approximate measurements: 31" x 5.5 I do my best to accurately describe condition and point out major flaws, but condition is seldom perfect as one would expect from a 100 year old textile. Small marks and flaws should be expected. The timeworn look and signs of their unique history is part of what makes them so charming and special! ***Please ask questions before purchasing.*** Thank you for looking!
