Description: ANTIQUE GATE LEG TABLE CHERRY WOOD. This table was sold to me by a man who identified it as being from the first half of the 1800s. He based that upon the fact that the leaves are each one continuous piece of cherry wood and not 2 pieces fused together. He said there are no later, newer cherry trees that large to make a continuous leaf like this. Hence, his assertion that this table is from the first half of the 1800s. That was his story. I really don’t know because the legs? Are they hand carved or machine? I do not know. Nonetheless, this is a heavy, well made substantial cherry wood gateleg dining table. It has a beautiful patina underneath it, indicating that it does have some age. It is 30 inches tall. Each of the leaves hanging down are 25 1/2 “, the part in the middle 22 1/2”. If the table is spread apart it’s a total of 73 1/2”. It’s 45 1/2” wide. So it does create quite a statement with it size. The spiral legs at the bottom are heavy and solid with rolling brass casters. I do not recommend rolling it because due to its age I feel that would be too harsh for the table to endure. That’s not to say it isn’t sturdy though. It needs to be picked up. There are some fissures and character lines on this table and should not be considered damage. They are just characteristics of wood. Additionally , this table at one time was refinished; it’s not the original finish .This table is being offered for sale as a pick up only. I’m not offering shipping so do not pay attention to the shipping information with this listing . There is a company called Rick Ships that I’ve used before .
