Description: A fine quality Japanese bronze jardinière in good antique condition dating from the late 19th century (Meiji Period). Birds of different species both perching and in flight are cast in high relief around the outside of the bowl. The detail in the birds and the trailing plants, which are cast in lower relief, is exquisite. It is a large decorative bowl which would look fabulous, with or without a plant, on a centre table or a chest / coffer. Dimensions: Height 22 cm; Diameter (max) 30 cm; Diameter opening 23 cm Weight: 3.13 kg Condition: The bowl is in good antique condition with a attractive colour and patina. There is a small closed split near the rim about 3 cm long and two pinholes in the side. The base is made of a white metal which has been welded to the bronze sides (as originally made).
