Description: Antique Manton de Manila Canton Silk Embroidered Piano Flamenco Shawl An authentic antique, hand embroidered with silk thread, silk piano shawl. 76" x 76" including the 24" silk fringe. The center field is a golden/creme silk measuring 52 x 52 (not including the fringe). Manton de Manila silk shawls are also known as Canton de Manila, Spanish or Flamenco Shawls The silk is strong and healthy, it has not been sun bleached or damaged. No holes. No missing embroidery. I have lightly steamed the shawl and fringe. The embroidery is meticulous and beautifully done, with colorful Mandarin ducks, water lilies, swirls of water, other exotic birds, butterflies and more. Condition: there are two areas on the silk fabric that have faded spill marks (pictured) and there is a similar mark on a 2" section of the woven section above the fringe (also pictured). Along the center, where it was folded in storage, there's light storage marks (hard to see in photographs). Professionally dry clean only. DO NOT WASH. The embroidery thread used in the late 1800's-early 1900's was NOT color fast, so if you try to wash it, the dye in the embroidery thread will run. Professionally Dry Clean Only.
