Description: Antique Map, Steel Engraving of ROMAN TERRITORY, PART OF ITALY & NEIGHBOURING COUNTRYProduced in 1858 Original publisher's leaf that includes two hand-colored maps of Roma (Rome) and part of Italy controlled by the Roman Empire. Maps feature beautiful watercolored outlines in blue and pink around country or regional borders. "10." and "11." are to the right on the outside of the neat line and correspond to the maps, respectively. Major cities and natural features such as mountains and rivers are shown. Scales of distance in Roman and English miles included. Map "10." (map of Rome) has numbers and letters within the city that correspond to a key that lists the city's features, such as the forum, basilica, bridges, and other points of interest. No date, circa 1836-1851. Leaf measures 10" x 13 1/4"; each map area measures 5 3/4" x 8 3/8." The center fold line is original as this map originally came from an atlas. Lines of latitude and longitude also included on map of Roman Territory. The following is printed beneath the map: "Philadelphia, Blanchard & Lea." and "Eng. by G. E. Sherman, N.Y." Blanchard & Lea (fl. c. 1836-1851) was a Philadelphia-based publishing house and successor to Matthew Carey & Company. George E.
