Description: Antique Original Etching Of UK Doctor Thomas Sydenham MD 1624-1689 Framed 14x20 Nice original etching with no date of creation but it is old. The print plate has the dates 1746 and 1747 so we know the original plates were from that time. We can't be sure if the plates were reused later on which would make this item's creation after that. Only other clue is the back is marked "Fairfax G. Wright to Bexx H. Lougx" (can't read the second name). Looked up Fairfax G. Wright and he could have been born in 1855 but unsure about that as well. It could easily be from the mid to late 1800s although it's also possible it was made in the mid 1700s. Appears to be printed on rag paper; the deep border lines where the plate ended are clearly visible in the photos. Adapted from online sources: Thomas Sydenham (10 September 1624 – 29 December 1689) was an English physician. He was the author of Observationes Medicae (1676) which became a standard textbook of medicine for two centuries so that he became known as 'The English Hippocrates'. Among his many achievements was the discovery of a disease, Sydenham's chorea, also known as St Vitus' Dance. To him is attributed the prescient dictum, "A man is as old as his arteries." Frame measures 14" x 20". Visible image measures 12 3/8" x 18 1/2".
