Description: Antique painting. An old stone bridge. Manner of Sofie Holten. Danish painter. Late 1800s. Oil on canvas. Illegibly signed in monogram. Framed. Size: 11 1/2" x 9 1/2" (290mm x 240mm) Framed: 14 1/2" x 12 1/2" (365mm x 315mm) Some fine crackels (dry paint), mainly at the lower right part. A pinsize hole at the upper left. Minor surface grime. A few small peelings at the lower right. The canvas has been re-inforced with blue paint at the reverse before attatched to stretchers (newer than painting). Presumably signed in monogram at the lower right (illegibly). Later framed, loosely placed, in a simple wooden frame with gold bronze paint. Signs of age and wear. See photos. The painting is in the manner of Sofie Holten (1858-1930). The artist is known for her landscape paintings from France. The painting comes from an estate sale, and was purchased together with a signed work by this artist. Please see our listed work by Sofie Holten, dated 1891.
