Antique primitive salt glazed stoneware beer bottle from the second half of the 1800's in Manhattan, New York. Very cool old stoneware beer from Frederick Stengle, who made Weiss Beer in the second half of the 1800's in Manhattan. Weiss beer is a lightly colored wheat beer originally made in Germany and its recipe brought to the United States by immigrants and produced here. Frederick Stengle, was a wholesale distiller of Weiss Beer and had bottles like this made by a local stoneware pottery, emblazoned with his company name and address on them for sale of his delicious beer. He also is said to have owned a bar, a billiard parlor and a restaurant. The merchant stamp reads; FRED STENGLE The bottle is in good condition and does have a bunch of potter's marks, a rough edge on the base from when it was taken from the wheel, flakes on the edges and a mid-body firing line, all from the use and making. Please see picture provided. It is OLD! 6 1/2" tall and 2 3/4" wide. OLD Manhattan history here and a cool old bottle which would look great on any collector's shelf. ENJOY * ENJOY * ENJOY!!!! Note about restoration and repair: If we see it... we say it! Note about shipping costs: The shippers are brutal! We don't have broken shipments because we pack and then pack again! Buyers of antiques or farmhouse design elements on our auctions should know that these items are used and not new and that what we offer, can show some evidence of wear and flaws in their manufacture and possible condition issues, both structural and/or cosmetic. Please refer to the photos for condition evaluation and use our descriptions as a basic overall guide to the item's condition, but not a complete analysis of the items exact condition, appearance or value. Listing space on eBay allows for only twelve pictures and a limited amount of descriptive characters. Our descriptions at times, only include issues of condition after the actual making of the item. Buyers of our stoneware should be aware that mention of flaws during the making of these primitive and antique items will be discussed in our descriptions, only when applicable, as an informative characterization. All primitive antique stoneware examples have flaws in the making and these generally are not included in our descriptions, so please use the pictures. Flaws and condition issues after the making, are made note of in our descriptions, and are only opinions and observations of the seller, however, the buyer/bidder should be aware that only the photos provided in our listings should be used to evaluate and determine decisions concerning condition, value and bidding/purchasing. All purchases are "as is" and final. Bidding is a commitment to purchase and failure to follow through with the purchase after bidding in good faith within the limitations of the eBay agreement will result in expulsion from our auctions and a negative report to eBay.
