Description: Up for consideration is an old duck hunting rig from the 30's or 40's complete with lines wires stakes and camo crate. They are marked GK for George Klebber or (Kleber) St. Louis and Michigan. An associate of mine purchased 2 smaller models from the same estate and found some paperwork with the fellows name. Hence his likewise my assumption is that he made the decoys for himself and possibly a few more for others. The decoys are made of cork with wooden heads and glass eyes. They sport glass eyes and wonderful old original paint. On the back the birds appear to be made so that they have a flat spot. The would probably allow the birds to sit on top of each without falling and likewise minimize the wear with a larger contact surface area rather than a point or humped back. Another point is that there is no wooden bottom like many of the Herter, Hansell, Quam or Tuveson. I don't think the rig was used much if at all as there is no shot whatsoever. It is marked G.K. on the weight of each bird...There are 8 Hens and 3 Drakes making up the rig another bird was in this rig but does not match and will be sold separately. They measure about 14.5 inches in length. There is some slight variation in size and one Drake has a slightly smaller head. There is some minor paint loss from the change in humidity as they were in crate packed and a few of the bird lost a bit of paint from being exposed to a new environment. The fellow was doing car repairs in the 60's and 70's and had a lot old tackle. These were tucked away under a work bench for decades...they look to be from the 30's or 40's.
