Description: ~*~ Hello and welcome to the Textile Trunk! Please follow us on Instagram, we are @textiletrunk ~*~ I was so lucky to have been offered someones collection of antique theater costumes! This is one of the set (to see the other textiles, just search my store for the word for " New York City" and they will appear!), c. early 1900s, all stamped with "Property of Ottone Pernpruner Theatrical Costumers New York." Ottone Pernpruner is listed as the costumer in a number of playbills for the San Carlo opera company. A touring opera company, they were initially based in Saint Louis but were brought to New York City when Fortune Gallo took over management for the company. Gallo eventually built the Gallo Opera House which later became Studio 54! The opera company these were likely costumes for had many famous performers tour with their company, including Josephine Lucchese, Tamaki Miura, Bianca Saroya, and Alice Gentle. The last image in the listing is a 1923 playbill from Portland Oregons Opera Season that lists Pernpruner as the costumer for the San Carlo Grand Opera Companys performances! Wonderful for a collector, or for wearing on special occasions! Color: This antique costume is a deep royal blue almost purple velvet with silver embroidery and beadwork. Measurements: This textile measures approximately Length: 15.5 inches in the front, 12 inches in the center of back Sleeve length: 10 inches from armpit to hem, not including lace Chest: 18.5 inches laid flat from one underarm to the other Shoulders: 11.5 inches across Condition: This lovely textile is in as found, not freshly laundered condition. This textile is in wonderful condition for its age and use. This textile was clearly worn! Some of the sequins have begun to loosen and it is missing quite a few. The lace on the sleeves has unraveled. The back of the right shoulder decoration is beginning to detach from the body of the jacket. The velvet is still in excellent condition and it beautiful! The lining has the name "Cecilia" written in pen, perhaps the name of the performer who wore this costume! The Ottone Pernpruner stamp has faded on the inside quite a bit. There is some staining on the inside of the garment, particularly around the armpit are. All antique textiles have light signs of time and use, often inherent in these wonderful antique finds!
