Lipton Large Tea Tin, Ceylon Scene, 5 Pound Tin, 8.75 inches Not often do you see the 5 pound version of this Thomas J. Lipton tea tin. The four sides have scenes of Ceylon. On two sides three women pick tea leaves as they seem to pose for a camera. They have baskets looped over their heads which are conveniently marked "Lipton". On the other two sides are water buffalo cooling off in a pond. The rich colors of the tin have survived nicely over the years. Separating the scenes are narrow vertical Art Nouveau designs with flowers and sinuous curves. The top of the tin, bordered by a leaf garland in gilt, has a great deal of information about the tin: "Thomas J. Lipton, Tea Planter Ceylon; tea merchant by special appointment to H. M. The King of Spain, H. M. King George, H. M. The King and Queen of Italy". The kings each have elaborate symbols. For good measure is added "No package of Lipton tea, coffee, cocoa, or jelly tablets genuine without the signature of Thomas J. Lipton." Thus, we see the signature of Thomas J. Lipton. The height of the tin is 8.75 inches. Each side is 7 inches. The interior shows some wear as does the top of the tin. Although there is little wear on the images; the gold metal around the images shows some wear. Images sell!
