Description: A rare Victorian Staffordshire figure of a shepherd and shepherdess sitting in a field of lavender colored foliage minding their sheep herd with their trusty dog. It is uncommon to see this piece done with lavender rather than green shredded clay foliage. Perhaps it is in homage to the famous English fields of lavender or heather. A circa 1860 - 1880 figure that is in excellent antique condition with only minimal paint loss to the shepherd's hair and arm, a few of the dog's spots, and the gold guilding on the fence (all pictured). There is some accumulated dust in crevices but overall it is a very clean piece with no chips or breakage. Provenance: obtained from the collection of a long time Staffordshire collector and dealer whose pieces have been featured in major publications such as Myrna Schkolne's Staffordshire Figures 1780-1840. Dimensions are approximately 5 1/4" t x 6 1/4" w x 3 1/4" d.
