Description: Antique Victorian Mourning Pinchbeck Shell Cameo gold plated Brooch extra large size. RARE Beautiful antique Victorian hand carved cameo mourning broach with image of a praying angel next to a grave. Mourning jewelry was made popular especially and popularly worn by Queen Victoria during the Victorian era of the 19th century. There is a loop at the top so that it could also be worn as a pendant. It is gold plated and can be polished if desired, but most collectors do like to leave the Petina for it is over 130 plus years old~ circa 1880. This was worn for the mourning of a loved one and most likely had hair displayed in the back and sealed. Unfortunately the hair and backing is missing so price as is.
