Description: 9 1/4" Blade 14 1/4" Total LengthLate 1800s-Early 1900s Rosewood HandleWicked Sharp This Foster Bros knife comes from the Gold Star line, their top line of product. Instantly recognizable because of the inlaid brass star rivets flush mounted on ebony or rosewood handles, the gold star line are often referred to as "the General." Foster Bros blades of this era were hand-forged from carbon steel with a much higher-than-average nickel content for hardness that hold an edge. At one time, there was an inscription at the base of the blade that read: "Nickel Steel, None Quite So Good, Warranted" (no longer visible). These rare nickel steel knives are the most highly prized of all Foster Bros cutlery items, and so difficult to find. The knife is in solid condition with the tip intact. The blade has been nicely sharpened. Condition is commensurate with its 100+ years of age. The handle is very good overall condition (please see photos for precise condition).
