Description: ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS Artifacts, Antiques & Fine Collectibles Antique Wooden & Leather Stirrup c. 1840-1865 This antique stirrup is made of Wood with a Leather and dates to the mid-19th Century (c. 1840-1865). It measures about 7" tall x 6" wide x 4.25" deep. This stirrup comes from the Southern United States and is similar to the ones used by Confederate troops during the Civil War. The wooden part of the stirrup is well worn and this stirrup has seen some tough rides. The curved, foot part of the stirrup has been carefully crafted with a serious of cuts in the wood (see 4x macro photos 3-4) in order to form the curved shape of the bottom of the stirrup. There top part of the wood shows cracks and splits consistent with its age of about 150 years old (see photo # 8). The leather is very brittle and also well worn from use. Several of the brass tacks that held the leather to the wood stirrup are no longer there (see photos 6 & 10)). This stirrup is classic Americana and would look great in your CSA Civil War collection or in your antique Western collection. What a terrific piece of American history that you can own!
