Description: Appleton’s Home Books were a periodically published series released during the mid- to late-Victorian period. Each volume dealt with a topic of interest to homemakers and homeowners, from gardening to “amusements” to home building. This volume covers “Home Occupations,” the Victorian term for “arts and crafts.” Wax modeling, scrapbooking, drying flowers and a variety of other artistic and quasi-artistic subjects are addressed. This copy is in excellent used condition for its age. These did not have dust jackets originally. The exterior shows only moderate wear; the binding is intact and reasonably tight. The front matter has a gift inscription including state (Kansas) and date (1887.) I terror is generally clean and unmarked aside from occasional light staining. For collectors of vintage books, home ec or crafting books, or particularly collectors of Appleton’s Home series. A perfect gift.
