Description: ARGENTINE 1909 MACHETE TRENCH BOLO KNIFE ARTILLERY SHORT SWORD EXPERIMENTAL PROTOTYPE MODIFIED with MATCHING SCABBARD WKS ins SLANT LETTERS marked GERMAN MADE. Attention: I have several Original Argentine frogs with different markings to fit these short swords; please let me know if you would like to purchase one in addition to this auction. This artillery short sword is a unique original piece, I have never seen another one like it. It can be an experimental or prototype piece; the pommel point sticking out was cut off; and the point going up of the crosshilt was also cut off. The blade is made out of SWEDISH steel and bears on one side of the riccaso the "Modelo Argentino 1909" marking as well as the nice detailed Argentine Coast of Arms and on the other side of the riccaso " WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & CO. SOLINGEN". The blade is bright and shiny; the edge is neither sharp or dull (it looks a bit thinner than usual); it has tiny scattered freckles-aging spots mainly on the riccaso and just above it; the rest of the blade has the normal dry cosmoline-aging spotting, usual scratches-handling marks and marks from withdrawing the scabbard. The pommel and the cross hilt has the same freckling-aging spots. The wood handles are in excellent shape, with NO chips, NO cracks, NO gauges; nice lighter tone of wood with just a few minimal bruises-scratches-handling marks; the rivets are tight in great condition. The steel scabbard has the MATCHING SN and NO dents; it has the original bluing with finish loss-thinning-fading, with some freckling-aging spots throughout, a couple of rough to the touch spots., normal usual scratches-handling marks. The throat screws are present. The scabbard fits the short sword perfectly. Book picture for reference only.
