Description: 1930's Art DecoAkro Agate Slag Uranium Glass Electric Lighter Working This is an early electric lighter in excellent condition with a wonderful caramel swirl. Popular in the 1920s and 30s these lighters employ an electric heating coil to light your cigar or cigarette. Intended to be left plugged in on a side table or desk, the lighter is activated by a weight that slides freely inside the jadeite glass case. When you pick up the lighter and turn it over, a circuit is completed and the electric heating element starts to glow. The mica disc keeps your cigar from touching the element directly. The lighter case is made from uranium or vaseline Akro Agate glass, sometimes known as uranium slag glass. Each piece is a unique work of art - No two pieces of Akro Agate glass are the same. The heating element is working, see photo. The power cord appears to be original with the outer cloth frayed badly, but the underlying insulation is mostly intact. The power cord should be replaced if you intend to use it yourself.
