Description: Atlas is a 1908 antique Maxfield Parrish print showcased in a vintage bat-wing frame. The frame size is 12.5" x 15" x .75" and the inside size is 9.5" x 13". Both the print and frame are in good condition. The color on the print is excellent, but there is some dust behind the glass and maybe some toning marks on the edges. The bat-wing frame has some minor scratches and the backing looks to have been replaced at some time Please use the included photos as a condition guide. Originally painted as one of a series of works inspired by classical mythology for Collier's, Atlas Landscape was illustrated as the cover of the May 16, 1908 issue. The painting belonged to the series Greek Mythology II and was titled Atlas Holding up the Sky. The work was also one of ten Parrish paintings to be used as an illustration for Duffield and Company's 1910 reprint of Nathanial Hawthorne's A Wonder Book and Tanglewood Tales, a collection of adaptations of Greek and Roman mythology.
