Description: ATQ Majolica Basket w/ Handle Wilhelm Sus Karlsruher Germany Art Nouveau c1910 Beautiful piece. Estate sale find! Art Noveau period basket bowl with handle. Made in Germany. Designed by Wilhelm Sus (1861-1933), a German painter, graphic artist and ceramist, for The Karlsruhe Royal Ducal Majolica Manufactory of which he served as artistic director. He also received the Golden Medal at the World’s Fair in St. Louis, MO in 1904. Uniquely shaped white ceramic bowl with lovely blue flowers adorning the handle. Measures 6-1/2” x 6” x 5”. Piece is stamped on bottom with blue studio mark. Incised number: 27C and 1169 A and what appears to be a hand painted g or 6 in one corner. There is some wear to the blue flowers and green ribbon on handle design as shown. Small chips to yellow centers of blue flowers and green ribbon pieces running through flowers. There is also a chip to underside of handle as shown. These flaws were not detected until the piece was brought home from estate sale. There is no crazing to the white portion of basket at all. Please review all photos provided as I am selling as-is. It is nonetheless a rare and stunning antique piece that is suitable for display. Thanks for looking!
