Description: H. Muckermann ATTITUDE OF CATHOLICS TOWARDS DARWINISM AND EVOLUTION. St. Louis: B. Herder Book Co., 1922. Third Edition. Hardcover. 110p, 4 plates. A green cloth hardcover book in very good condition. Corners and spine ends lightly rubbed; owner's name inside front cover. Otherwise clean and tight. Item #193410 Hermann Muckermann (1877-1962) was a German Jesuit priest, anthropologist, and proponent of "racial hygiene," which he nominally rejected upon Pope Pius XI's condemnation of eugenics. Muckermann nonetheless continued to teach eugenics in Germany and embraced Nazi ideology concerning racial purity. In this book, he condemns certain aspects of Darwinism but concedes that the theory of evolution is compatible with Christian faith.
