Aside from having written two Old Mother Riley scripts, he is best known internationally for having co-written the book for the stage show Battling Butler, which Buster Keaton and his staff turned into a silent comedy feature. The stage show starred Jack Buchanan and Melford in the London production and Charles Ruggles in the Broadway presentation.
