Description: I. History: a. The Barbie Inspiring Women Series: The Barbie Inspiring Women Series pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time; courageous women who took risks, changed rules and paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before. To date, Barbie has honored 50 role models of various races and is committed to showing girls more role models by honoring a minimum of 10 each year. Like all Barnies price points run the gamut. From $35.00 for Billie Jean King up to $240.00 for Tina Turner (who was released only few months before her untimely death). b. Amelia Earhart: Exuding a spirit of adventure even as a young child, Amelia Mary Earhart was in to a well to do Kansas family in 1897. after the invention of the airplane men and woman began taking to the air. Earhart became the first female aviator to ever fly across the Atlantic Ocean. Amelia broke and set aviation records for women. She believed her accomplishments would prove men and women could be equal in jobs. In 1936 Amelia Earhart purchased a new Lockheed 10-E Electra with funds from the Purdue Research Foundation. The airplane was officially called the "Flying Laboratory" because it was meant to be used as a test bed for new equipment. But Earhart's intent was to fly it around the world. On May 21, 1937, Earhart and one of the finest navigators of the era Fred Noonan began a round-the-world flight, beginning in Oakland, California, and traveling east in the twin-engine Electra. They departed Miami on June 1 and reached Lae, New Guinea, on June 29, having flown 21 of 30 days and covered 22,000 miles. They left Lae on July 2nd for their next refueling stop, a speck of land in the Pacific Ocean called Howland Island. They never found it and were seen again. Following a massive sea and air search that covered an area roughly the size of Texas, Earhart and Noonan were declared lost at sea on July 18th, 1937. Earhart's Electra has never been found.Since she and her navigator or plane were never found speculation has run the gauntlet since. II. For sale: Mattel Barbie Inspiring Women Series Amelia Earhart Doll. MINT NRFB. a. Model Overview: The Amelia Earhart doll is beautifully made. She looks just like Amelia Earhart and her outfit is outstanding, taking you back in time. b. Model Features: Amelia Earhart, as played by Barbie, has 1930's aviators outfit, flight Map boots, and a flight helmet. Includes doll, doll stand and Certificate of Authenticity. c. Model Finish: It's not an ornate doll, that would simply not make sense for this historic figure, but that details that are present are perfect. From the fur collar of her bomber jacket to the route dotted on her map to her aviator glasses and helmet, this Barbie successfully adapted the historic images of Amelia Earhart into a Barbie mold. The face looks like Amelia Earhart with a Barbie twist and is really well-done. The Bob hairstyle and color falls in line with Armilla Earhart's as well, naturally make up is conservative but well done accenting her facial features. d. R.C Aircraft flyers and Aircraft Modelers: This doll makes for a great pilot for your next scale RC aircraft. The actual height of the doll is 11.5” (not 12” like the package says) which works out to about 1/6 scale and she weights in at 4ozs with a level of detail rivaling pilot figures costing hundreds of dollars. Her arms are fully articulated but her legs only bend at the hip In short I would highly recommend this doll for your next RC aircraft project. Beside her last plane Vega Lockheed 10-E Twin engine she mostly flew the Lockheed 5-B (see final Image from the Smithsonian Institute Earhart's actual plane) There are two ways to correct the straight knee issue: 1) Replace the legs with Barbie Made to move legs or similar with bendable knees. Check with seller not all legs fit all dolls. Most eBay doll sellers should be able to answer compatibly issue prior to purchase. 2) alternatively advanced molders, have uses a razor saw, some copper wire and epoxy were successfully able to give her knee joints. III. Box: Original unopened. Slight tear at bottom see image #18 (final box image). Some creasing on the back and sides. IV. Shipping: Free local pick up Seattle WA area. Domestic: Free USPS Mail. International shipping: Through eBay International shipping program only.
