Description: Batik: The Impact Of Time And Environment Doellah Danar Hadi, 2004 Condition is Near Fine with very few signs at all of wear inside or out. A Superior Copy. H. Santosa Doellah was born in Surakarta in 1941. His last education was at the Faculty of Economy of the University of Pajajaran. His broad knowledge of batik was obtained during his youth when he was brought up by his grandfather, R.H.S Wongsodinomo, a prominent batik entrepreneur and merchant in Surakarta, as well as one of the founders of the Association of Indonesian Batik Cooperatives (Gabungan Koperasi Batik Indonesia, GKBI). He also inherited some batik-business "blood" from his great-grandfather, H. Bakri, born in 1870, who was a batik entrepreneur from twenty years of age. PT Batik Danar Hadi established by H. Santosa in 1967 evolved with Indonesia's foremost batik enterprise and a symbol of the national batik world. Today, it has expanded into an integrated batik industry handling all steps of production from spinning thread to finished garments. The Ndalem Wuryaningratan, a complex of classic old buildings in Surakarta, has been beautifully restored to its original form. In one corner stands the Danar Hadi Gallery of antique batiks displaying H. Santosa's superb private collection of batiks of all types from all eras. The gallery was opened on 20 October 2000 by Ms. Megawati Soekarnoputri -at the time still Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia. For his deep concern and the tireless efforts to preserve the culture of the people, H. Santosa was awarded the Upakarti in 1985 by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the IAI award in 2000 by the Indonesian Architectural Society. In the book Batik, the Impact of Time and Environment, H. Santosa shares his vast experience and knowledge of batik the history, the designs, the process, and the philosophy -as part of his efforts to preserve and develop the culture of Java, and especially the art of batik.
