THE BATTLE OF SHILOH, TENNESSEE ~ FROM THE WILLIAM 'BILL' A. REGER COLLECTION ~ A nice fired .577 caliber Enfield type or ringless rifle bullet with a nice patina. This artifact was recovered at the site of the Battle of Shiloh in 1973. This artifact comes out of the collection of William 'Bill' A. Reger, one of the great early relic hunters, who lived in Berks County, Pennsylvania and relic hunted at a variety of sites from the 1950s to 1977. Reger carefully identified his artifacts with typed labels. In this case, the tag is not included, as it was the only typed tag Reger included for this particular grouping, however a copy of the tag, as well as a provenance letter, will be included. Reger passed away in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2011. The Battle of Shiloh was the first major battle in the Western Theater. The battle was fierce and the casualties were very high, but ultimately the Union Army emerged victorious under the leadership of General Ulysses S. Grant. A provenance letter will be included We include as much documentation with the relics as we possess. This includes copies of tags if there are original identification tags or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information. All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic, and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Some land on Battlefields that is now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, was acquired after the relics were recovered. We will not buy or sell any items that were recovered illegally, nor will we sell any items that we suspect were recovered illegally. Thank you for viewing!
